School Quality

The HCPS Department of School Quality supports schools as they implement strategic planning processes that articulate their school community's vision and mission. Schools' strategic planning processes align with the division's "Destination 2025" plan, guiding the academic, social and emotional learning of all students in an equitable, innovative way.

The Department of School Quality provides schools with:

  • Structure and support.
  • Guidance in achieving and maintaining accreditation.
  • Professional learning grounded in equitable student experiences.
  • Coaching staff.

VDOE Liaison

The School Quality Department promotes the Virginia Support Framework and supports the framework's four domains: academics; staffing; organizational learning; and school climates. Using Virginia's continuous improvement process, HCPS school quality staff members help schools with state- and federal-accountability requirements, based on their accreditation statuses.

School Support

The department provides schools with coaching and support for the school quality process using the principles of improvement science. Team members facilitate school-based workshops to conduct an annual assessment of school needs, which drives the creation and implementation of the school's support plan.

Division Support

The team helps school administrators, staff members and HCPS central office leaders develop improvement science knowledge and skills. Team members provide current research-based practices to improve instruction, and work with school and HCPS leaders to promote positive attendance habits and on-time graduation rates.
