Parent Portal Bus App

Parent Portal Bus App

HCPS families can access The Edulog Parent Portal bus tracking app.  This app will empower families, improve communication and foster efficiency. Parents, guardians, and caregivers can follow their student’s bus, receive notifications when a bus enters a user-defined area and receive notifications that their student has boarded/disembarked the bus.

"A promotional image featuring a smiling young girl with a backpack standing in front of a blurred yellow school bus. On the left, a smartphone displays a school bus tracking app interface. The legible text on the phone screen reads: 'TRIP TO SCHOOL', 'Notify when the bus is within 0.5 Miles', 'Alert In' followed by a time range, and 'To School' over a map displaying location pins and a daily stop schedule. In the bottom right corner, a dark gray banner contains the text 'CONNECT WITH' in white and 'YOUR COMMUNITY' in teal." "A promotional image showing a smiling young boy with a backpack standing in front of the blurred back of a yellow school bus. On the left side, a smartphone displays a school bus tracking app interface showing a map with location pins and route information. The legible text at the top of the app reads 'WHERE'S MY BUS?'. In the bottom right corner, a dark gray banner features the text 'PARENTS' in white and 'EMPOWERED!' in teal."

We want to stress that no bus tracking service is 100% accurate — please don’t assume the bus isn’t coming because the app didn’t notify you. If you are in doubt about the arrival of a bus, please call the transportation area office that supports your school. Students should be at their stop five minutes before their scheduled pickup time.

When a bus is out of service, bus substitutions are made, and this can affect the accuracy of the Edulog Bus Parent Portal apps. When a bus substitution is made, the app may not provide GPS information. By Virginia law, buses must have a safety inspection every 45 days.

Our mission is to provide safe and reliable student transportation for all eligible HCPS students to and from school and school activities each day.

All Transportation Routes are available in the Edulog Parent Portal App!

With the Edulog Bus Parent Portal app, you can view:

  • Bus locations
  • Scan history
  • Transportation schedules
  • Loading and unloading status

This app is free of charge to parents, guardians, caregivers and students. In addition to displaying the location of your student’s bus and sending notifications, you can also receive time-sensitive messages from the HCPS Pupil Transportation Department. This could include messages such as when a different bus is in use because of scheduled maintenance on your regular bus.

Security is our top priority. To see bus locations in the app, you must have specific information for your child, including name, student I.D., school and date of birth. With the Edulog Bus Parent Portal apps, we hope to improve communication and expand the information available to HCPS families.

How to get started with Edulog Parent Portal

FAQ: Edulog Bus Parent Portal (general education students)

    • Yes. Once you install the app, the language can be changed from English to Spanish using the Settings tab. Make sure to select Save to continue in the language of your choice.
  • This is done from the Student List tab by selecting the “+” icon or the Add Student button. To register your student, you must have five pieces of information to ensure security:

    • Student’s first name (spelled correctly)
    • Student’s last name (spelled correctly)
    • School to which the student is assigned.
    • Student’s date of birth
    • Student I.D. number (used in PowerSchool)
    • You must use the spelling of the first and last name that matches the student record in PowerSchool.
    • Typically, a student registration shows as Pending or Rejected if all five security fields do not match. You can see the data that you entered by selecting this student in the app and examining the data to check for typographical errors. If you have questions about the spelling of the name or the district I.D. number, you should contact the student’s school.
    • The Home tab shows the basic trip information for each student that you have added on your app. Typically this will be a morning and afternoon trip. For each trip, the app displays the student’s name, whether notifications are activated for the trip, the scheduled pickup and dropoff times and the bus number. Trips are displayed in the order of the next pickup or dropoff time.
    • From the Students tab, just swipe left for that student. This is also the process you use to delete a Pending or Rejected registration.
    • The school division’s transportation department may send messages to parents and others that are using the app. Messages may be sent to specific individuals or those with students assigned to a specific bus route. App users receive these messages as a notification on their phone. Selecting the envelope icon allows you to see previously received messages.
    • The planned locations and times for pickup and dropoff can be found on the Home tab or the Transportation Schedule screen. The My Bus tab shows the bus’s distance, as the crow flies, from your bus stop.
    • For security and privacy, buses’ locations will only be visible during school transportation hours.
    • The Parent Portal mobile app enables school divisions to share planned and actual school transportation information with parents, guardians and caregivers. The app provides the latest information on the planned time and location of the student’s school bus stop. It can show the position of the school bus and give an alert as the bus nears the bus stop. Parents, guardians and caregivers receive notifications when their student scans an I.D. card as they board and disembark the bus.
